Nil by mouth

Have you noticed in my story (because sometimes, it does feel like the cancer diagnosis isn't real and just a bad dream) that the doctor didn't talk to my mother about her diagnosis?  So here's the thing.

We are Chinese.

My mum was born in China and emigrated to England in 1969.  Her mother tongue is Cantonese (quite literally!) and she speaks limited English.  These hospital appointments just took an interesting turn, didn't they? I was born in England and am bilingual, speaking fluent Cantonese and English.  I am her carer, her translator, her housemate, her partner in crime.  I am my mother's daughter.  And I wouldn't change it for the world.

A note from my mum
